Peeping through Scriptures

Modestly titled Peeping through Scriptures – the outcome of inspired poetic profusion — takes you on a guided journey along spiritual alleys. I call the title modest because the exhaustive notes and exegesis appended to many of the poems make it an eclectic treatise on the scriptures. The poems unravel the life-affirming and life-sustaining convergences that run through all religions.
Chandra Prakash Sharma seems to be a font of creativity, which is catalyzed by ideas and quintessential messages contained in the religious scriptures. Reading through the collection is like meditating on God, self, the universe, and all that it encompasses and thinking about LIFE holistically, with continuities, flows, and syncretic interconnections.
As a counter-point to the ‘Hermeneutics of Suspicion,’ the poems in the collection proposition the purpose of life as attaining ‘bliss, peace and harmony.’ In such a conception of life, there is no room for disjuncture or schism, but the celebration!

Book Review

It needs a deft hand of a great visionary and poet like Dr. Sharma to extract the timeless juices of wisdom from the scriptures and express them in simple verse. This collection of poems is a great contribution to the literature of poetry. He has blended well the wisdom of the sages with his own erudite knowledge and wisdom. Reading these poems not only delights and enriches our wisdom but also heals our soul.

Diverse beings are seen
Enlightened you see One in all
An ignorant sees many

In all of them is my hue
I am in love with floral frill
In waywardness, I am lost
Searching me in them I am frost

Caught up in the forms
Constrained to see my real self
Living together through life
I never interact with myself

Know Thyself

The world is this moment

Next moment it won’t be the same

The life is this moment

Next moment will be insurance claim

I am at this moment

Next moment will be fame or blame

Everything is a spinning frame

Patterns make unmake

But self is never at stake

It is original

From it the copies make

Know this

The original never miss

Self is the truth

Self is the beautiful

Self is the light

Naked self is larger than life

All else is dream
